The Department of Commerce, organised an industrial visit to Madikeri, Coorg for the Second Year B. Com students on 7 January 2026. The visit was planned with the objective of providing students with practical exposure to industrial operations and enhancing their understanding of real-world business and production processes. A total of 81 students participated in the visit, accompanied by four faculty members.
The journey commenced from the college campus at 6:00 a.m., and the group reached Madikeri at 11:30 a.m. The tour was well organised and smoothly coordinated under the guidance of the accompanying faculty.
The first industrial unit visited was a Coffee Factory in Coorg, where students were introduced to the processing and production of Arabica and Robusta coffee varieties. The students learned that Arabica coffee, owing to its superior quality and higher demand, is exported to regions such as Chitradurga, Chikmangalore while Robusta coffee enjoys greater demand within Coorg. The rich aroma of freshly processed coffee highlighted its quality and freshness, providing students with valuable insights into the coffee industry.
The second visit was to the Nandini Milk Factory, where students observed the complete milk processing system. The various stages of milk processing, including collection, quality testing, pasteurisation, and packaging, were explained in detail. This visit offered students a comprehensive understanding of operations in the dairy industry
After completing the industrial visits, the students and faculty members had lunch at a local restaurant. The itinerary also included visits to cultural and recreational sites. The group visited the Golden Temple, which offered a serene and peaceful environment and reflected communal harmony, with people from different religions visiting the place. A well-maintained park added to the calm surroundings.
The final stop was Nisargadhama, a popular tourist destination where students explored local food items, clothing, accessories, and chocolates available at affordable prices. Recreational activities such as horse riding and 5D experiences added enjoyment to the visit.
The group returned safely to the college at 9:55 p.m. The industrial visit proved to be informative, educational, and enriching, effectively bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical exposure.
